Should I change my cartilage stud to a hoop?

It has been 6 weeks. My piercer said it will be okay to change it in 4-6 weeks. I got it done with a needle but I don't want to hurt the piercing when I remove the stud. Moreover, I heard hoops heal faster is that true?
