If i get a iphone 4 with verizon and unlimited data plan do i need a unlimited texting plan?

Ok, so if I buy a iphone 4 from VERIZON and have a unlimited data plan... do i need a unlimited texting plan also? or can i just use some app for texting or some alternate way of texting? please answer asap. n if there is a alternate way please let me know what it is
