How do i put a hoop in my nose peircing?

I just peirced my own nose and i got some hoops that are thicker than i expected. I widened my peircing hole with a larger safety pin and my hoop only goes so far until it stops. I put a lot of pressure on it but it is not working and it is very painful. How do i get the hoop in?
